Rogers Upholstery
(Vancouver, Washington)
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
DEALING WITH THESE
PEOPLE
Roger's
Upholstery in Vancouver,
Washington used to be a
great place. They did
all kinds of upholstery
for cars, boats and
furniture items. Well,
times have changed. The
original owner for the
past several years and
years and years died
last year and it is
under new ownership. The
business that is next
door to Roger's (Four
Seasons Auto Body
Collision Repair) runs
it now ..... and in a
completely different
manner. For the past
years all you had to do
was go in and see Roger,
tell him what you wanted
and he'd tell you how
much and how long it
would take. The jobs
were always done on
time. He did GREAT work
and the price was always
as quoted. He was honest
with his customers and
knew how to treat
people. didn't waste
peoples' time jacking
them around. didn't make
up excuses for work not
being finished on time.
didn't give you the
run-a-round. Just did
business the old
fashioned way. HONESTLY,
So, I was pretty
disappointed last week
when I found a new
company was running the
operation but they
seemed nice and I gave
them a try. I took in 4
bar stools to have them
recovered. New barstools
were about 100 to 200
each so I figured
recovering small seat
pads and back cushions
would save me some
money. Well, as these
things tend to go, I
thought I'd save some
money in the beginning
but in the end I got
lied to and screwed and
ended up paying almost
as much as new bar
stools would have cost.
This is kind of how it
came down:
-
1. I brought
the stools in for an
estimate. She was
all smiles and had
her estimator come
in and tell her how
many labor hours and
how much fabric it
would take. She then
got on the computer
and did a lot of
figuring this and
that and then told
me she had come up
with a price of
$523.00 total.
-
2. I told her I
could get new ones
for pretty close to
that and that I
couldn't pay that
much.
-
3. She asked "well,
how much could you
pay?" I told her
$75.00 per stool
(these are med. size
stools and have just
a standard seat
cushion and a back
rest pad).
-
4. She did a bunch
more figuring and
came up with a total
price of $406.00.
She gave me a
computer printout of
everything all broke
down and the total
plus tax came to
$406.00. This was a
price quote, not an
estimate.
-
I gave her $200.00
cash deposit and 5
days later came in
to pick up the bar
stools but was told
it cost more than
she had originally
agreed to charge me.
She told me that the
amount of sq. yards
of material the
employee quoted her
was for just one
stool and she
thought that was the
amount of material
for all 4 stools so
they hade to buy
more material. She
also said that they
had to use more
"fill" to make the
cushions look full
and padded the way
I'd told her I
wanted them. She
also said they
wanted to do a nice
job so the job took
longer than they
thought it would
take. She showed me
a bunch of figures
of additional
amounts and she was
talking about 300.00
plus or more than
she originally
agreed to do the job
for.
-
I told here I
wouldn't pay that.
As I told her in the
beginning, "if it
was too much I'd
rather just buy new
ones."
-
She had she couldn't
help that. I asked
her how she could be
so far off
estimating the
amount of fabric
needed. I mean, I
don't know the
difference between 1
yard and 3.5 yards
or whatever, but she
does that for a
living and she tries
to tell me that she
thought a tiny
amount would cover
all 4 stools but it
was only enough for
1 stool??? That's
all these people do
every day, all day
long is measure and
install fabric and
she is trying to
tell me she was off
300% on 4 small bar
stools.
-
Anyway, we went back
and forth and she
finally said she'd
accept $500.00 total
cash (that's 20%
more than she had
agreed to do the job
for) and I paid it
in cash and I told
her I'd never be
back again. That
type of threat never
bothers businesses
who operate like
this. they'd rather
rake you over the
coals once and find
new customers then
treat you fair and
get repeat business.
Legally, I didn't
even have to pay the
$500.00. I already
had a signed order
for the $406.00. The
bar stools were
already in my car
and I could have
just told them to
sue me and left.
But, I don't want to
ever have anything
to do with these
people again so I
paid the money and
told them I'd never
be back and left.
DO NOT PATRONIZE ROGER'S
UPHOLSTERY
Here's another complaint
we just received:
Yes, Rodgers Upholstery
is still up to no good.
Last Friday they quoted
us over they phone a
headliner install on a
71 Bug for $300. They
stated they have done
quite a few of them and
it would only take about
4 hours to complete. And
it was cheaper because
we already had the
headliner kit and seals
in our possession.
We made the arrangements
to drop the vehicle off
this morning at Rodgers
and my wife did so.
So after a few hours, my
wife was running some
errands in the locale
and decided to drop by
to see if there was any
surprises in store.
They hadn't started
because they had been
trying to get in touch
with her, it seems it is
now a 7 hour task rather
than 4 and now the quote
is $543 rather than
$300. Well my wife was
quite miffed about this
and canceled the task.
DO NOT PATRONIZE ROGER'S
UPHOLSTERY
Here's another complaint
we just received:
I just recently had
a bad experience
with this company,
so here is my story.
Drove the car to
there shop to get a
quote and they
seemed really
helpful. Went over
everything with the
upholsterer and got
a quote for new top,
seat foams, front
and rear seats
recovered, door
panels, kick panels,
side window replaced
and installing some
parts I furnished
like arm rests,
hinge covers and sun
visors all brand
new. My quote from
them was $ 4265 and
some change and they
could have it done
in two weeks.
Sounded pretty
appealing to me so I
scheduled an
appointment to drop
the car off June 20th
09 and they needed
half down, so I
asked if $ 2000
would be enough and
she agreed to that.
So dropped the car
off paid her the
$2000 and went on my
way. Two weeks went
bye and no update so
I stopped by there
and my car had not
been touched. Ok I
understand this
stuff takes time and
they have other jobs
they are finishing
then they will get
to mine. So they did
get to mine and I
get a call saying I
need to come look at
my car. I come down
there and my carpet
is completely torn
out of the car and
half the new padding
is laid out, no
where on my estimate
did it say replace
my carpet. So they
asked me if that was
alright and I asked
how much? It came to
$750 I said wow
that’s a lot ,but I
can get a carpet kit
for $300. We battled
back and forth a
little and they
dropped the price
$100 that the
upholsterer had to
pay. It was more
than I wanted to
spend, but I was
sure it would look
better. So then they
finally got my rear
seat done and it
looked fantastic and
that’s when I got
another call saying
that the upholsterer
had been arrested,
but he would be out
in five days. That
didn’t happen and my
car sat idle for
another week or so
before they hired a
new upholsterer and
he took over on my
car. I had to meet
with him and explain
how I wanted
everything all over
again. He really got
to work on my car
and put the top on
and started on the
front seats then he
called me again to
explain my door
panels and kick
panels so we got
that square and I
noticed that there
was a big pile of
parts in the middle
of my hood mind they
did have some foam
over the car but not
completely I started
to look closer and
there was scuffs and
marrs all over my
car. I figured I
would deal with that
issue later.
Complained to the
shop hand and was
told we didn’t do
that so I went on my
way by this time I
just wanted my car
back. Sorry this is
so long winded just
being thorough. Ok
ordered some more
parts they needed
and delivered them
and the upholsterer
noticed that my
drivers side quarter
window would not
roll up properly we
looked and saw that
the rollers were
broken it wasn’t
like that when I
dropped it off but I
got blamed for that
also. So the shop
hand comes over and
with a bag of parts
and asks where do
these go? Well they
were the parts for
the passenger window
they replaced and
never reinstalled
and so for three
hours labor they
fixed my windows at
this point I agreed
to pay I just wanted
my car back and
didn’t want them to
touch it any more.
So on August 27th
I got my car back
paid the rest of the
money $3400 and got
the hell out of
there. It was
raining that day so
when I got home went
over the car and
noticed that the top
leaked and the
piping on the rear
seat didn’t match
the front seats. So
I decided to pull it
in my shop and
really go over it.
Found that the arm
rests were installed
on the wrong doors
the drivers seat
didn’t have new
foams just a bunch
of scrap foam glued
into it and so its
high on one side low
on the other, the
front seat brackets
were installed
improperly as in not
all the bolts were
in it and missing a
stand off that holds
the seat up in the
back, my gas pedal
was loose the
passenger door panel
lines are uneven
noticeably, the seat
hinges rub on the
seat bottom badly
causing it to get
gouged and some of
the stitching is
already popping out.
I spent five hours
buffing the paint
and touch up
painting where it
got scratched. I
then spent another
four hours repairing
my seat brackets
that they cut and
hacked. Switched the
arm rests and
reinstalled my gas
pedal. Thank you for
taking the time to
read this and if you
want to skip a lot
of headaches I would
strongly suggest not
using Rodgers. I
paid dearly to learn
my lesson do not
make the same
mistake I did you
will pay for it. No
pun intended. Craig
